Today, our world is home to the largest generation of young people in history (there are 1.8 billion people around the globe between the ages of 10 and 24). But what kind of world are young people going to inherit? And, what role will young people play in shaping it?
Past generations created a socio-economic system that disproportionately rewards the few instead of the many rising, underfunds healthcare and education; and puts the liveability of the planet at risk for future generations by not taking climate change seriously.
Even though half of the world's population is under 30 and young people are the most affected demographic when it comes to the world's rising socio-economic, political, and environmental crises, youth are not meaningfully included in decision-making spaces.
In the midst of every crisis, lies great opportunity, and when it comes to the world's youth, there is an unprecedented opportunity for them to play a more active role in leading the transition to a more resilient, equitable, and sustainable world for everyone.
It's time for young people to not only be given 'a seat at the table', but for them to be seen and heard in the halls of power. It's time for young people to drive the positive change they want to see in the world. And that positive change begins here, in your local community.
